Swiss Solar Market on the Rise

Good news for the Swiss solar market: approx. 35 % of all energy is now produced through solar technology. The positive development is the result of the consequent development of photovoltaic systems on suitable roofs throughout the Swiss.            

Swiss owner’s of a photovoltaic system are pleased at the possibility of an increase in the feed-in remuneration for solar electricity. Since October 2011, a modified form of the Swiss compensatory Energy Ordinance has been enacted. As soon as 2013, a new tariff could step in guaranteeing photovoltaic owners a supplement equivalent to 0,9 cents/kWh. Authorities are basing their opinions on the last two years experience with the Energy and Water Protection Act.

Studies has proven that if the Swiss were to install PV systems on all applicable rooftops, 35 % of the annual energy demands would be covered entirely by solar energy. The market volume alone had 1,5 billion Swiss francs at its disposal and with an irradiation level between 1000 and 1500 kWh/m² annually, photovoltaic systems can practically be built anywhere in the Swiss. Alone in Bern the irradiation is only 2,2 times less than that of the Sahara.
